Kevin Lawrence is the Creative Director of Big Apple Slices Tours and a licensed New York City tour guide.

With well over a decade experience designing and conducting tours not only in New York City but throughout China and Taiwan as well, Kevin has led hundreds upon hundreds of people through the dizzying streets of New York City (and Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, etc.) giving clear-to-follow, engaging, entertaining, in-depth tours that comprehensively lay out the multi-layered history and culture of the various neighborhoods his tours wind through.

He also teaches (or has taught/lectured on) history, art history, film, and cross-cultural exchange at a number of prestigious schools or institutions including Purchase College, the University of Chicago, the Graham School of Continuing Education, the China Institute in America, the Dalton School, the Borough of Manhattan Community College, the Asia Society, and New York University.

Educated at the University of Iowa in the undergraduate and graduate program of Comparative Literature (as well as in Chinese language programs at Nanjing University, the Tsinghua Inter-University Program, and Taiwan Normal University), he eventually studied for many years in the Ph.D. program in East Asian Languages & Civilizations at the University of Chicago before leaving academia ABD to pursue a full-time career in the non-profit and tourism sectors of New York City (and to live full-time in this great city.)

His passions include literature (especially poetry), dogs (especially Cairn Terriers), museum/gallery visits (especially the Metropolitan Museum of Art), and he considers himself an amateur birder. And, of course, he is passionate about anything and everything dealing with the history of his home city: New York, NY!

You might find him wandering around New York’s Woodlawn, Green-Wood, or Trinity cemeteries, but you can more readily reach him by email at kglnyc@gmail.com.
